Trends of music world in 2018

  • 25 January 2018

2018 is here, and it is time to make predictions about the next 12 months. A number of resources, including well-known Internet magazine Rolling Stone, has already presented their visions of the situation.

The growing of Latin American music popularity

"Despacito" hit by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee has launched a revolution. The leading music brands are increasingly investing in the promotion of Latin American styles from trap to reggaeton. There are a lot of reasons to believe that the genre will soon be able to compete with rock, hip-hop and country which is popular abroad. Together with Justin Bieber (who worked on the Remix of "Despacito"), many English-speaking singers started to work with Latin American stars (among them there are Beyoncé and Logic).

The mixture of musical genres and instruments

Most of the groups that were introduced in 2017, do not follow one specific genre but use a combination of several elements. The development of technology in the music world has led to a blurring of the boundaries between musical genres. Therefore, this led to an incredible combination of many different musical instruments within one performing group. So, for example, it became acceptable to use folk or symphonic instruments in rock music.

The loss of hip-hop's leading position in the charts

Influential American weekly magazine Billboard, well-known for its charts, may reconsider the policy of ratings formation in 2018. The importance of free music content might be reduced in favor of paid subscriptions and services. Fans of hip-hop, as a rule, I use free channels of music, while rock fans usually prefer to pay for listening to music.

The emergence of new boy bands

The American music industry believes in the potential of such groups and has provided the world with some promising boy bands. Among them there is PrettyMuch. Whether it's a return of Backstreet Boys or they will become something entirely new – time will tell.
